Ian never forgot her.
For years afterward, Ian walked into storage units filled with other people's whole lives: photo albums, wedding china, birthday cards nobody would ever read again. Every time, he pictured her, waiting somewhere without a single thing she owned, hoping for a phone call that never came.
He decided the next person in her position deserved someone who would show up, not someone who would treat them like their whole life was disposable.
The memory kept tugging at his heart.
Ian came to his wife Marie with an idea. He wanted to start a company offering cheap moving services to people who needed them most. Marie had one addition: make it free.
They reached out to local agencies to confirm the need was real, and worked out the logistics of how a free moving service could actually run. Ian brought years of moving and logistics experience. Marie brought experience building businesses from the ground up. Together, they founded Mission Way Moving.

Ian Hanson
Ian Hanson leads Mission Way Moving as Chair and Executive Director. With experience at three moving companies, both on the truck and behind the desk as a logistics coordinator, Ian brings a rare combination of hands-on skill and operational know-how to every move.
He has worked professionally in residential and commercial moving, and has spent years figuring out how to do it faster, smarter, and with less waste. What sets Ian apart is that he brings that same professional precision to the families we serve, moving with both compassion and speed because he understands that for someone in crisis, time matters just as much as care.
